Well the first week is completed.
I've seen lots of things
I've leant new things
Where to start?
Thursday at 3:30pm I commenced my Pilgrimage of the Northern Saints
This started with a guided tour of Durham Cathedral that was interesting and informative.
There was also an opportunity to view Durham Cathedral in Lego!
On the evening of the first day, we listened to a talk on the Northern Saints.
Friday was an early start as we travelled to Hexham Abbey, where we had a guided tour of the Cathedral.
After lunch in the Priory Rooms at the Abbey we continued our journey to Vindolanda, an excavation site where we saw a typical Roman village.
At 3pm we had the opportunity to walk part of Hadrian's Wall. This is was a strenuous and physically demanding walk, which included some rock climbing and hill climbing. The length of the walk was about 5 miles but realistically it was more like 8 miles, due to the demands of the landscape.
There were 29 people completed the walk, even if it did take an extra 10 minutes than was expected.
The coach picked us up at Housesteads, and the homeward journey began.
After dinner, we were entertained with the playing of the Northumbrian Pipes
Saturday was an early start as we commenced our journey to Grosmomt where we enjoyed a journey on a steam train into Whitby.
On arrival in Whitby we had a lunch of fish and chips.
We also saw a street artist who was attracting some attention!
We then met up with the coach and made our way to the Whitby Abbey exhibition.
We then returned to the college for the evening meal and then enjoyed a quiz evening.
This Pilgrimage has been a great experience, at sometimes challenging and other times moving, and allowing me to think about my own journey with God and where it might lead me.
